We reside in the northeastern section of the country. Generally we have long, rough winters. Then when the springtime thaw sets in, everything seems to turn to mud. Right now, my backyard is a sizable mud pit! Frankly, I’m thinking about having some mud wrestling competitions back there if it doesn’t improve pretty soon. Actually, right now all of us are super worried about the mud situation because it has started to affect our plumbing system. We have a sump pump in our basement, you see, and it’s been a constant source of problems for us! Even though I recently had a plumber come out to install a modern plumbing system for us, the sump pump is still somehow getting congested with mud! That causes all kinds of problems in our basement plumbing; our pipes get backed up from the mud and then the sump pump stops working completely. This, in turn, causes the main plumbing drain downstairs to fill with water and then flood our basement again and again. Recently, this has been happening every time it rains. All of the snow melt is not helping matters in the least! Yesterday, after I saw the wet carpet in the basement yet again, I gave up and called the plumber to come back over to see if she could figure out a solution for us. Seriously, basement and exterior plumbing are just not home repairs that my spouse and I are prepared to deal with anymore. However, I also don’t believe we are prepared to deal with the cost of an emergency plumbing service call. Occasionally, though, as a homeowner, you just have to do what you need to do.
